Greatest Country Music Videos
This song is by taylor swift. the video was directed by roman white and released on September 1 2009.
The video is narrative based with elements of performance, there is a relationship between the lyrics and visuals. Examples of this is when she sings "you walk through the doors" in the video it shows her walking through the door. another example would be when she says "you sit in class next to a redhead girl.." a redhead girl is shown. a final example would be when she says "night" the scene turns to night time.
Fifteen uses extreme close ups and close ups of the artist to show her emotions and to emphasise her innocence, also it is used to show that she is singing to the audience personally. The extreme close ups on her guitar are used to show she is talented and links in with the perfect image as it she shows she has other talents. One final shot is a establishing shot used and the start of the video as it shows where she is which is in a field, a typical setting for a country music video.
The notion of looking is also used in this video where taylor flashbacks to when she was fifteen. then afterwards taylor is brought back to the real world where she is in the rain where she is sinignig to a girl in the playground trying to tell her not to make the mistakes she did.
The video also uses weather to show taylors emotions. In the first part of the song the setting is bright and happy with the sun shining which is taylors mood. then in the second half it shows rain falling, dark skies and dark colours worn. the dark colours symbolise the sadness in the second half, whereas the bright colours symbolise happiness in the first.
